500 Days Of Film Reviews The Must-See Films To Watch This April
For fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, April 2019 just couldn’t come around fast enough. Now that the month is finally here, it is hard to see past the release of Avengers: Endgame.
There are, of course, many more films to look out for... Take a look below at some of April’s unmissable movies (UK releases). What are you most looking forward to watching?
However, before we get stuck into our April movie plans, how was your March? What movies did you enjoy last month?
The month started rather well for me. First up was Stephen Merchant’s charming and entertaining film, Fighting With My Family. Later on, I also enjoyed Ben Is Back, starring Julia Roberts and Lucas Hedges.
I wouldn’t be surprised if two of March’s cinema releases made my favourite films of 2019 list. First came the (very, very) highly anticipated Captain Marvel. I loved this film and thought Brie Larson was superb as Carol Danvers.
Then came Jordan Peele’s incredible horror film, Us. The less you know the better but, in spoiler free summary, I can tell you that Us is an intelligent, precise, tense, entertaining and unsettling horror movie. A visually stunning film (and, oh my, that score) that will haunt you for a long, long time.
There were some phenomenal DVD releases last month. Hirokazu Kore-eda’s Shoplifters was, for me, completely perfect. I was also really impressed by Paul Dano’s directorial debut, Wildlife. Oscar winning documentary, Free Solo, took my breath away (I literally had to remind myself to breathe) and I fell in love with (another documentary), Of Love & Law.
Meanwhile, Netflix offered some good movie choices in March. Triple Frontier was impressive but didn’t quite satisfy, I had fun with the really very silly anti rom-com / rom-com, Isn’t It Romantic, starring Rebel Wilson, and I very much enjoyed Chiwetel Ejiofor’s powerful directorial debut, The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind.
All in all, March was a good month for film! Now, let’s look at what April has in store…
